UpToDate Today

HI!!!

Finally, some of you may say, I am posting again. Yes, I am indeed posting, but don't expect to hear much out of me after tomorrow, at least until this coming Sunday.

So, more pleasant details of my life. um... skiing? We went to Crested Butte, where Ross had a small "incident", as some of you may have heard. He went off a small large jump thingie and came down, surprisingly, on his skis, but lost his balance and hit his head on the hard packed snow. He was out for twenty minutes. The ski instructor was absolutely hysterical!! Probably something to do with legal matters, which we had the great pleasure of not pursuing.

That was five years ago. This year, things turned out significantly better, except for the snow conditions. They should've had around... 40 inches of snow up to that point, and they didn't have nearly that much. Temperatures were above freezing at the base area for at least half the week, but it wasn't quite so bad on the mountain, meaning it wasn't too bad.... In my opinion, a rather decent return trip, though we could've used a larger mountain with all the skilled skiers. Not nearly enough blacks, and nobody would go on the double blacks with me... *muttered*

Then more recently, just this past weekend there was that shooting camp trip, Boy Scouts, of course. We mostly shot off shotguns all weekend long. There was a small factor of eating and sleeping, as well as trying to keep warm in the really cold weather...

This has been a long post, at least from my point of view. I shall now retire to my bed.

Edit:It took a while to write, but now that I think about it, it isn't all that long...

  1. Glad to see that the Shadow's Friend is back safely and without harm.

Watch out for them thar braces. You'll get all the magpies in the county coming and trying to steal the shiny things off your teeth. *grin*

  2. My dear Amigo,

You had me going there for a while when you mentioned Ross's incident of a few years back. I jumped to the conclusion that it happened again, but then you cleared up the issue. I watched the ski reports for that part of CO a couple of times while you were gone. I thought 20 - 30 inches of snow would make for decent skiing. I didn't realize it was that warm, though. That might make a difference....I'm glad to know everyone came back in one piece.

The boy scout camping - just how cold are we talking about? I think the coldest girl scout camping trip I ever had was cold enough when you're talking about girls and their moms who aren't really geared up for anything colder than, say, 50 degrees F. Cooking pancakes over a fire made from wet wood in the pouring down rain is not my idea of fun, either. Shooting can be fun, but, boy, you've got to know what you're doing. I trust that a group of boy scouts in Nacanowhere would know about shooting, though.

Speaking of boy scouts, I had an amusing conversation the other day. My friend was relating the trouble she is having with finding a dr. to deliver her baby who will be born in April. Then she apparently changed the subject abruptly to tell us about her nephew who just got his eagle scout award. I thought she was going to tell us that her problems are now solved: since her nephew is now an eagle scout, who is obviously ready for anything, he can deliver the baby!:-) But, no, she was just going to tell about a lady she met at the eagle scout ceremony who recommended a new doctor! I'm sure your dad would have a thing or two to say about an eagle scout planning to deliver a baby! It's one thing to do it in an emergency; quite another to make plans for the event!

I don't suppose attending births is part of the normal training for an eagle scout anyway.

Well, Petra, we are in the last day of build season for robotics before the ship hour in Tulsa at 5:00 this afternoon. A tense time for two of your cousins. We'll all be home for supper tonight, though, if they can stay awake long enough to eat it.

    Bye for now.

  3. Just what is your sarcastic comment supposed to mean????

Don't listen to f.b. - Braces are NOT BAD. Repeat after me: NOT BAD. :-) They hurt for about 24 hours and then - don't drop dea on me - life returns to normal. Brushing your teeth is a pain and you have to forgoe the gum and beef jerky, but other than that they are VERY GOOD as they make your teeth look really pretty, they make you smile more, which is good, at least they made me smile more, and altogether worth a few years of annoyance.

Then you have a few more years of retention - speaking of which, where is my retainer???? Hmmmm. Last sighting....processing...oh yes, the bathroom sink several hours ago....hmmmmm.

methinks I should keep typing something so that I can rival Arwen's comment....

  5. His mother has regaled him with tales of her braces repeatedly. "When I was your age... we had spacers and a great deal of pain... you will be glad you did this when you are 20... if you don't tell Dr. Norman what color bands you want he will give you HOT PINK."

Peter looks older already, but then he had to have a haircut in preparation for the speech and debate tournament that starts on Thursday morning and lost all that lovely long dark, dark brown hair.

I am sure we will hear about the tournament soon.

  6. Bracéd? Is that even a word? The computer doesn't think so, it put a red squiggly line under the word.

  7. BTW, Spectre got some facts wrong. We should have had 50-60 inches of snow at that time. once we even had 70 or so. But this time we had a measly 37 at the base at the start of the week. SURE, BLAME IT ON GLOBAL WARMING.

  8. Spectre,

Now you've had those braces a few days, how's it going? Have you tried chewing that sugarless gum that the orthodontists approve? Oddly, it actually helped your cousin.

  9. I still chew bubblegum every once in a while, and I eat starbursts, and I eat toffee when I get a chance, andI still eat and drink as much sugary stuff as I ever did (not an unreasonable amount). So yeah, I'm a bad girl and don't do what I do. But I have found that braces really haven't changed my life much-except that it takes me longer to eat.

  10. JCP, I have... startling news.

YOU WERE ALL WRONG!! I got braces Tuesday morning and lo and behold, on Sunday night, I am still sore. I find it very hard to eat with said problem. :(
